Square Terminal All-in-One Credit Card Machine
Hot on the heels of the IDSA-Gold-winning Square Register, is Square’s latest release, the new Square Terminal. Square’s Industrial Designers generated volumes of concepts and meticulously evaluated each one. We supported Square’s design refinement process by modeling each iteration and by being on call to make any slight change required by manufacturers. If you ever get one of these in your hand, open the paper roll door and look under the roll. The hinge area looks simple, almost invisible. But understanding how to fit the paper roll, how it rotates out, and how a person removes and replaces the paper all while keeping complex tooling considerations in mind and gaps or visible openings to a minimum is surprisingly complicated. Every 0.1mm of space was crucial to achieving the desired aesthetic while simultaneously fortifying the part to prevent it from breaking off.
