Labrador Retriever Assistive Robot
Tact collaborated with Labrador to develop the Retriever, an Alexa-enabled autonomous robot assistant that helps people age-in-place at home. Tact engineered the mixed material exterior panels to precisely interface with the critical parts of the robot’s mechanical architecture. In addition, the Tact team designed the panels for extra rigidity so that if the robot accidentally bumps into anything, the force transfers to load cells that make the robot stop instantly and re-route. And, in keeping with Azimov’s First Law of Robotics, the overmolded material is extra soft in case fingers are accidentally pinched when the tray goes up and down.
