Bitkey Self-Custody Bitcoin Wallet
Bitkey by Jack Dorsey’s Block, Inc., is a physical device for cryptocurrency owners to securely store their private encryption keys. It addresses 2 critical issues with existing crypto exchanges: secure storage and reliable access. Using a 2-of-3 multi-signature authentication with your smartphone and a fingerprint reader on the device, Bitkey keeps your crypto safe and retrievable even if you lose both your phone and the device.
At launch in December of 2023, the Bitkey bitcoin wallet began shipping in over 95 countries. Recently, Time named Bitkey one of The best inventions of 2024. Bitkey was also honored with a bronze in the 2024 International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA).

Tact worked closely with Block’s design team on CAD sculpting the Bitkey hardware and packaging. One of the original design sketches was to make Bitkey look like a cube (Block) with one of the corners pointing at you. The designers envisioned the optical illusion of a hexagon that rises into a pyramid – a shape that is impossible to make. But we did it anyway: at first glance, the Bitkey seems simple, but on closer inspection, the subtle surface transitions appear jewel-like and are, in fact, quite complicated to achieve the original 2D effect in 3D.
