Backbone One Mobile Gaming Controller

The Backbone founders set out to create a seriously great console-style controller for the iPhone, one that works so well and feels so right, you forget that you’re playing on a phone. Focused on a premium gaming experience, Backbone worked closely with Astro and Tact to individually dial-in the selection and feel of each trigger, bumper and button. Numerous clever innovations give end users the best possible experience including reduced click noise. Even the surface texture and finish were customized.

The telescoping controller cradles the phone as you play and further improves your gaming experience by utilizing the low-latency connection achieved by directly connecting to the iPhone’s Lightning port. The Backbone software further enhances the controller by allowing players to edit recorded clips, share with friends, voice chat, play against friends, and more.We get really excited when an opportunity arises to work with people who really care about the quality of the device and Backbone really nailed it.

Invariably, each new generation of iPhone creates challenges for 3rd party developers. To be ready for it at launch, Backbone had to predict changes coming with the new iPhone 15 before the specs were released.

Tact worked with Backbone on modifications to the Backbone One gaming controller to make it as likely as possible to be compatible with the yet-to-be-released iPhone 15. When the iPhone 15 with USB-C was announced, Backbone was ready with a perfect fit!
